At the Repair Shop – by David Radavich

These are fingers
that feather the files
like a spider,
moving as a pianist
through long arpeggios
delicate in their ten
moving parts
that know every name
and draw up
just the right page.
Effortless he moves
from wrench to wheel
to workbench.
Somehow this
is the man
lost in his hands,
careful and practiced,
artist of autos
oiled and earnest
who can sense
where the fallen belong.
